Magnet Fisher of the Month: Ravengirl

Name: Ravengirl AKA Melody

Youtube Channel :The Ravengirl

Meet this month’s Magnet Fisher of the Month, Melody (YouTuber Ravengirl). She is a 13-year-old girl who lives in England and loves the outdoors, nature and animals of all shapes and sizes. She is not your typical young lady – Ravengirl has an athletic history and has practised boxing and mixed martial arts in the past. The copious amount of homework that school brings has put martial arts on hold for now, but that’s not enough to stop her from Magnet Fishing. She first started Magnet Fishing when her Grandad brought her to the local canal to show what the fuss is all about. Needless to say, she absolutely loved it! Since then, they have set up a successful YouTube channel documenting their magnet fishing journeys and have gained thousands of subscribers in the process, not to mention winning last years magnet fishing competition. She describes winning the Fynger Magnet Fishing Memorial Contest as her best fishing moment. Not just as she was crowned the winner, but that she has the opportunity to meet lots of nice people especially Mrs Fynger (Watch a video on the competition here https://youtu.be/hLVM-1C1GKg). She says she is hooked because she never knows what their next find will be. It could be a boring old trolly or a rare historical find!

Where do you usually Magnet Fish?

We asked Ravengirl where she usually goes magnet fishing, “Midlands, but we are planning future road trips to other areas around the country. We are off to Wales very shortly.” If you want to watch her next Wales adventure follow her Youtube and Facebook page.

Ravengirl’s set up

Magnet – I have magnets that range from a single-sided 60kg pull up to a double-sided 200kg pull. My favourite is the latter.

Knot – My Grandad uses a knot that is very strong and apparently impossible for the magnet to come off the rope. He says the rope will wear out first!

Rope – I have used several types of rope, but the best one I have has a 480kg pull, but the 4mm width makes it very uncomfortable when trying to pull large objects. My favourite rope is the thicker 6mm rope which is much more comfortable to use.

Ravengirl’s Finds of Fame

We like to ask fellow magnet fishers about their best, worst and dream finds. Afterall, one person’s junk is another one’s treasure.

What is your best Find?

My favourite find has probably been a bullet from 1940 that we found in Leicester. We have found a really old padlock and ancient looking large key… And a Crayfish! 😀

What is your worst Find?

Shopping trollies!

What is your dream Find?

We would love to find an antique sword or knife!

Youtube Channel Shoutout

I have to recommend my Granddad’s channel ‘Many Fun Adventures’. His videos are cool and his editing for his videos and of course mine, are 2nd to none! They are all fun too! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4bHCKunnE3aqMHtN_mj1NQ

MFA Youtube channel – Welcome to the ‘Many Fun Adventures’ channel. I am The Ravengirl’s Cameraman, Editor and general Slave. Oh yes, I also happen to be her Granddad. As well as helping her run her Channel I will also be adding more and more of my own fun and entertaining videos here on this channel. So please stay a while and enjoy. And please don’t forget to subscribe! Enjoy!

Ravengirl’s top tip?

Every magnet fisher has their own tips and tricks so we ask Ravengirl what her advice would be to any new magnet fishers out there. She says, “Try magnet fishing next to a busy road bridge”. Bridges provide a great location for disposing of goods so you never know what you might find.

Magnet Fishing Memorable Moments

With every magnet fishing trip comes new memories; here are Raven girls favourites.

“The funniest moment this year has to be when we pranked Blazing Magnets with a megaphone pretending to be the Canal Trust. That is one of my favourite videos ever! 😀 Check out the video here https://youtu.be/dKQEQ9DQU_w
