Magnet size by base
Each base shown with its magnets to scale, in gold.
Uneven undersides? On bases like Space Marine Heroes, or where there's a small gap, use epoxy putty to set the magnet flush with the base. For which glue to use and how to make it hold, see our guide to the best glue for magnets.
Will it hold through the plastic? Check with MagNet™, our free magnet calculator.

Carry cases: magnets on the base, steel in the case
Put a magnet in each base and line the case with thin steel sheet. A magnet holds to steel whichever pole faces it, so there are no poles to match.
- Use steel
Aluminium won't hold a magnet, and many stainless steels won't either.
- Thin sheet holds less
Thin steel can't carry the whole field, so a magnet holds less on sheet than on thick plate (Six things that reduce magnet pull force). Step up a size or use two magnets per base.
- Keep it touching
Foam, paint or anything else between the magnet and the steel acts as a gap and weakens the hold.
Then the poles must face the right way every time. See our guide Polarity every time.
