What are cylinder magnets?

How quickly will I receive my order?

All orders placed before 1pm (Monday – Friday excluding bank holidays) are dispatched on the same day. All parcels go through several stages of quality inspection before dispatch to ensure items are exactly as expected. The delivery time is dependent on the shipping method chosen and the estimated time of arrival will be shown on your order. Unfortunately, we have no control over the speed of freight but we can assure you, items are dispatched within 24 business hours. What materials are cylinder magnets made from?

All off-the-shelf cylinder magnets are axially magnetised by standard, unless otherwise specified on the product page. 

We also offer custom manufactured magnets which means we can produce diametrically magnetised magnets if that is a requirement. 

How is the strength of a cylinder magnet measured?

The strength of a cylinder magnet is typically measured in terms of its pull force or magnetic field strength (measured in Gauss or Tesla). Neodymium magnets often come with a grade, such as N35 or N52, where a higher number indicates a stronger magnet.

Can cylinder magnets lose their magnetism?

Yes, cylinder magnets can lose their magnetism if exposed to extreme temperatures, strong demagnetising fields, or physical damage. Neodymium magnets, for example, can demagnetise if heated beyond their maximum temperature threshold.

Are cylinder magnets suitable for outdoor use?

While some cylinder magnets, like ferrite and alnico, have better resistance to corrosion and can be used outdoors, others like neodymium should be coated or housed in protective materials if they are to be used in wet or corrosive environments. Samarium cobalt magnets are also highly resistant to corrosion and suitable for challenging environments.
